I love a trip to the Zoo

Today we spent the whole day at Singapore Zoo and it is true what they say, Singapore Zoo is definitely one of the best in the world. The enclosures are more open; with monkeys climbing the trees above your head and crocodiles swimming below you as you cross over the bridge. We had a fab day here and we got to see loads of animals we had never seen before, which definitely added to the experience. I won't bore you with the details, just post you lots of pictures to see instead.

Dreaming of a white Christmas in Singapore

Merry Christmas everybody! Enjoy the day spending time with your family and friends, demolishing a nice English roast dinner (I think Nandos is going to be my Christmas dinner), I'm not jealous at all! Love to you all.

Is it a bird... Is it a plane... No it's Sandra in a cable cart

More adventures in Singapore this time we took to the sky as super heroes (in a superhero themed cable cart) and headed to Sentosa; where we explored the surroundings and found another Merlion.

As part of our Zoo ticket we gained access to the Jurong bird sanctuary. The sun was blazing and shade was limited, so I have to admit I wasn't fully engaged with this attraction due to my over excessive sweating, however the vast variety of colour and species from all areas of the globe would fascinate any bird lover (there were lots of chances to interact with some of the birds too). Just visit when it's a little cooler.

Now when you have lived off Asian food for nearly 3 months, seeing western food is a cause for celebration (and I don't mean McDonalds or any other fast food establishment, I mean genuine hearty English food). We came across this little treat in a shopping mall. The food may not have looked like much but you don't understand how much I have been craving mash potato and gravy! Welcome to the pie shop!

I have to admit it was some of the nicest food I have tasted in a while (probably because it reminded me of home) and because I love steak pie. I even ate the mushy peas. Nom nom!
This was a perfect time to say goodbye to our fellow traveller Sandra, who we had spent the last 5 days with. She maybe Christmas crazy but it was just what we needed over the festive holidays. Enjoy the rest of your travels in Africa and bye Singapore you have become one of my favourite places to travel. Next stop Kuala Lumpur.

Busiest day yet, but also the best!

We decided to start our day with a typical Singapore breakfast of eggs and toast and then headed down to China town. We just had a quick poodle around China town as we felt it didn't quite compare to the real deal.

We then met up with our friend Sandra and rammed the day full of activities; a trip to the botanic gardens, the singapore flyer (which is just like the London Eye), a view of the F1 track, met up with some more friends (David and Maria), visitied the colour lights at the Bay Gardens and ate the best chicken satay in Singapore.
Overall the day has been hectic but one of the best so far. I love Singapore!

Last stop in Thailand

We decided to head back to Patong as our next flight was from here. Unfortunately the weather wasn't the greatest, so we didn't travel back to Koh Phi Phi (which I am gutted about). So we spent 7 more days in the package holiday central.
We were still with Alice and Becky for this part of our travels and when the Sun was out, we headed towards the beach and worshipped the Sun some more.
Now anyone who has been to Thailand is fully aware of the 'Ping Pong Shows'. To get the record straight, we did not go to the shows, but we had to endure the hundreds of sales people popping noises in our ears. Along Bangla street they even create a barricade wall that you have to push through, so you have no choice but to listen. Seems they aren't just Ping Pong shows anymore, as their lists of activities are at least 30 long. I just don't quite understand the fascination of it all!
One evening we did find the coolest bar (Oatto Bar), which was a converted VW camper van. The cocktails were cheap and delicious, we also met some pretty cool Aussies who we are hoping to meet up with later on in our travels (they also invited us to their hotel the next day to use their swimming pool, which was a 5* hotel and we felt very poor once we left). We spent our whole night here (until 3am) enjoying the company and atmosphere. I really recommend this place to anyone staying in Patong.

Now onto a new country to spend Christmas at. Hello Singapore :)

I think I'm going to like it here

Apparently according to the Singaporeans all they do in Singapore is shop, go to the cinema and eat; so that is what we decided to do. I have never seen so many shopping malls in one place! Pretty much every metro stations leads to a shopping mall, which leads to another shopping mall so I totally get why Singaporeans shop all the time (because you can't miss the shops). But of course nearly every shopping mall also contains a cinema, so thought it would be the perfect opportunity to drag leigh along to watch the Hobbit.
Now I could easily shop all day long but thought it would be best to catch a few of the other sights found in Singapore. We begun by visiting the Merlion statue, this statue can be found printed on many of the Singaporean typical tourist tat. It is a creature which is half lion and half fish and I would like to say I knew what significance it had to Singapore but that would be a lie. However it looked really pretty all lit up at night.

We then took the opportunity to grab a Christmasy Starbucks and sat by the river watching the spectacular view of the  Marina Bay Sands light show. The Marina looked very similar to Hong Kong but felt a lot more like London (making it feel a lot more like home), this maybe due to English being one of their native languages (this also made life a lot easier to get a round). I have a feeling I'm really going to like this city already.
